Zusammenfassung

The Routledge Handbook of Sexualities and Space explores how sexualities, genders, and space shape one another across everyday life, institutions, politics, and environments. Bringing together contributions from scholars working across geography, architecture, planning, sociology, anthropology, gender and sexuality studies, and related fields, the volume reflects the interdisciplinary character of research on sexualities and space while foregrounding the importance of spatial thinking for understanding sexual and gendered lives.

Organised into seven thematic sections, this handbook explores sites and infrastructures, economies and sexualities, technologies, sexualities, and space, practices and relations, subjects and subjectivities, transnational negotiations, and crises and resistances. Rather than solely following a conventional thematic structure, the collection adopts an innovative keyword approach, inviting contributors to examine concepts, practices, objects, and subjectivities that open up new ways of engaging with the spatial dimensions of sexualities and genders. Across diverse geographical contexts and theoretical perspectives, the chapters engage with established debates while highlighting emerging questions and underexplored areas of scholarship. Together, they provide readers with an accessible introduction to the field and a broad overview of contemporary research on sexualities, genders, and space.

This handbook will be of interest to scholars and students working in geography, gender and sexuality studies, sociology, anthropology, architecture, planning, urban studies, cultural studies, political science, social sciences, and related disciplines. It will be suitable for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as for researchers seeking an overview of contemporary debates and developments in the interdisciplinary study of sexualities, genders, and space. It will also appeal to practitioners, policymakers, and activists concerned with questions of gender, sexuality, inequality, and spatial justice.

Valerie De Craene is a postdoctoral researcher on geographies of sexualities and applied researcher in housing studies, in Belgium.

Gilly Hartal is an associate professor in gender studies and the founder of the Association of LGBT-Queer Research in Israel.

Stefanie C. Boulila is head of research in Switzerland. Her transdisciplinary research engages intersectionality, critical race theory, queer and feminist theory, and the lived experiences of LGBTIQ+ communities in Europe.

Cesare Di Feliciantonio is a researcher in Italy, and editor of Social & Cultural Geography and editorial board member of Gender, Place & Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography.

Gavin Brown runs a small LGBTQ+ health charity in Leicester, England. In listening and responding to the specific health needs of different groups of LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV in urban and rural areas of the East Midlands, he applies his geographical training in his current working life.

Ekaterina Filep is senior researcher in Switzerland. Her interdisciplinary work lies at the intersection of gender studies and environmental history.

Joseli Maria Silva is a senior researcher professor and a visiting professor in Brazil. She is the coordinator of the Territorial Studies Group, dedicated to the study of gender, sexualities, and space.

Kath Browne is a geography professor in Ireland. Her research has focused on social justice and inequalities, specifically around gender and sexualities.
