Shane Neilson (mad; autistic) is a poet, physician, and critic from New Brunswick. His poetry has appeared in Poetry Magazine, Verse Daily, and Literature and Medicine. The Reign (Goose Lane Editions) was named by the CBC as one of the best poetry books of 2025. In 2026 he won the Bailey Prize as well as the Colleen Thibaudeau Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Poetry. Finally, he does a too-rare thing: he teaches poetic diagnostic reasoning to medical students at McMaster University's Waterloo Regional Campus.
