Leído hoy, el texto excede con creces ese origen: es un documento excepcional de la escritura femenina colonial y, al mismo tiempo, una obra de singular intensidad literaria, en la que la vida interior se organiza en imágenes bellas, de precisión y extrañeza.
La presente edición, a cargo de María Piedad Quevedo Alvarado, ofrece una nueva transcripción del manuscrito autógrafo y un aparato crítico que restituye su materialidad y su contexto. Esta recuperación permite reconocer en Jerónima una voz que, desde los márgenes, amplía los límites de la tradición.
