Telly, a young married woman, is deceived and betrayed by her husband and falls into a forbidden love with her cousin, Xie Ke'ou. Torn between desire and social constraints, the two struggle in secrecy, but their self-destructive passion leads to declining health and ultimately a suicide pact. Set in the May Fourth era, the story becomes a tragic love song of youth caught between desire, morality, and social restraint.
