Barry Smith is a philosopher who has written hundreds of works in philosophy and history of philosophy, including Austrian Philosophy: The Legacy of Franz Brentano (1999), and made vital contributions to the foundations of ontology and data science, especially in the biomedical domain.  Most recently, his work has led to the creation of an international standard in ontology (ISO/IEC), the first example of a philosophical finding to be adopted into the ISO standardization procedure.
