John Andreas Olsen is Head of the Department for War Studies at the Swedish Defence University. He retired from the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 2025 after a distinguished career that included serving as Dean of the Norwegian Defence University College, Deputy Commander at NATO HQ Sarajevo, Director of Security Policy in the Ministry of Defence, Defence Attaché to the United Kingdom and Net Assessment Analyst at NATO HQ Brussels. He is a non-resident senior fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, a fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences and the author of numerous books, including Airpower Reborn, Airpower Applied, Airpower Pioneers, Routledge Handbook of Air Power, and Routledge Handbook of NATO.
