This is the second book in the Moose on the Roof mystery series. The author shares her deep love of Vermont and interweaves the importance of family, friendship, community, and the creatures who share our world and enrich our lives.
Emma and George Nielsen closed Moose on the Roof Books after the traumatic deaths of two members of their community at the bookstore. Emma begins volunteering at Willow Hill, a local nursing home, reigniting her love of working with older people. George spends his retirement on their couch, reading and snoozing with their beloved senior cat, Annie.
From her first week of volunteering, Emma realizes she must be wary of some of her co-workers: an intimidating, callous nurse, twin social workers who are beautiful but damaged, and a medication technician with the unblinking eyes of a sociopath.
Emma and her new friend, Vickie, the kind Hospice nurse, become curious about two suspicious deaths. Their questions bring to light the means and motive to kill these two patients. In the midst of this, George enters rehab at Willow Hill, and Emma worries her vulnerable husband will become a target. Will Helga, the facility's cat who senses death, be visiting him?
