Roberts (1877?1953) was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, so he knew his Canadian setting well. He was the younger brother of poet Charles G.D. Roberts and the father of painter Goodridge Roberts. He published his first poem at age eleven and his first prose piece at thirteen. He briefly attended the University of New Brunswick but left before graduating.

Finally, Wild Horse Mesa, by Zane Grey, follows Chane Weymer, a wild-horse hunter, as he attempts to capture the legendary wild stallion, Panquitch, in the rugged plains of Utah. The narrative delves into themes of adventure, the untamed West, and a developing romance.
