This book introduces the reader to some of the core areas of Swiss private law with a focus on property, contract, tort, and company law. It gives an overview over the fundamental principles and key rules in these fields of law. Yet, it is also highly practical: it explains how to work with and apply the law, and it deals with legal topics which the reader encounters daily, e.g., sales and rent contracts, liability for motor vehicle owners, how ownership of property is acquired and transferred, or how companies are constituted. The reader will thus be equipped with the basic knowledge and vocabulary to navigate individual and business interactions in Switzerland. The nutshell is designed to be accessible and informative for English speakers with or without a prior legal background.
