Gary's been bipolar since he was eighteen. At forty, he's stable, has a great career, family and friends, but he's never had a relationship. Casual sex has always been the easy option-fun, plentiful and no risk of upsetting the unruly emotions that simmer below his calm exterior. But all this changes when he meets Jeff. In Gary's mind, he's the one! However, Jeff only wants a part-time arrangement and Gary must settle for things the way Jeff wants, hoping he'll eventually come around. Still Gary struggles. Jeff can be so loving, yet still maintain that he doesn't want a relationship. In time, Gary comes to believe he doesn't deserve more. After all, he's bipolar and thus flawed. He feels Jeff slipping away. Things reach a crisis point when Jeff makes a devastating announcement, which plunges Gary into depression. He's forced to resort to drastic measures and fight for the relationship before it's too late.
