James P. Bennett, Jr. is a native of St. Petersburg, FL. He received a B.S. in Chemistry (with Honors) from the University of Florida (1970), attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for his M.D. (1974) and Ph.D. (Pharmacology, 1977) degrees. He did a residency at the University of Virginia (UVA). He was a faculty member in UVA's departments of Neurology, Psychiatry and Pharmacology and held the Ebbert Chair in Medical Science. In 2009 he moved to Virginia Commonwealth University where he was Chairman of Neurology (2009-2013) and founding Director of the Parkinsons Disease and Movement Disorder Center (2009-2015). In June 2015 founded Neurodegeneration Therapeutics, Inc. (NTI).
